New background technique: Pastel, Gesso, Watercolour.
These are the first 3 art journal pages created during the mixed media classes at Kreative Koncepts I have been going to:
One of my all time favourite journal pages. This is the mainly coloured pencils. I drew the face in graphite then gesso’d over the top with Reeves brand gesso, which is very liquid and has a fine grain. The prepared page has a distinctive tooth, almost like very fine sandpaper. This tooth grabbed the coloured pencil beautifully and I found it easy to achieve the gradients by building many light layers. I used a blending stump to move the colour around. In real life the face has a more translucent quality than in the picture.
I enjoyed this lesson from Life Book 2014. Spray inks are fun.
Supplies: Watercolour paper, Tattered Angels Glimmermist, washi tape, acrylic paint, stencil, stamps
Supplies: Watercolour paper, acrylic paint, stencils (Kaisercraft and TCW), reinkers (Ranger and Stampin’ Up!), Dylusions Spray Ink.
I am trying to stick to my original plan when I signed up for Life Book 2014, and that was to follow each lesson as closely as I could. To really step outside my comfort zone and try new things. Life Book 2014 has over 20 teachers, which attracted me because I would be exposed to a multitude of new artists with different approaches, styles, techniques and inspirations. So far, I am have had some mixed reactions to the lessons. Some I love and will definitely re-create in my non-Life Book art journals in a different fashion. Others I am still trying to get my head around, or just not feeling ‘it’.
Supplies: Watercolour paper, acrylic paint (Reeves), dictionary page, sewing pattern tissue paper, music paper, corrogated card, postage stamp, Sizzix die, stencils (Kaisercraft and generic alpha), Kaisercraft stamp, Versafine ink.
Using this grey as a whole background was scary. I gave a nod to current trends in home decor and paired the grey with hits of yellow and teal. It still felt very… grey, so I made the words large and bold to try and bring a bit of ooomph to the page.
Supplies: Acrylic paint, foam stamps (generic alpha and Heidi Swapp), stickers (Smiggle)
